    A universal statement covers the whole class (signalled by 'all', 'no', 'every', 'none'), while a particular statement covers only a part (signalled by 'some', 'a few', 'most'). In notation: All A are B (universal affirmative), No A is B (universal negative), Some A are B (particular affirmative), Some A are not B (particular negative).

  2. In syllogism solving, what immediate inference is always valid from the statement 'Some A are B'?

    'Some A are B' converts to 'Some B are A' (both are particular affirmative). Conversion of a particular affirmative is always valid.

  3. What is the conversion rule for 'All A are B' in syllogisms?

    'All A are B' converts only to 'Some B are A' (not to 'All B are A'). A universal affirmative converts into a particular affirmative.

  4. In syllogisms, when does a 'possibility' conclusion become true, and what is the key rule for definite vs. possible?

    A possibility conclusion is true unless it is definitely ruled out by the statements. If a relationship can be drawn in at least one valid diagram, the possibility holds; a definite conclusion must hold in EVERY possible diagram.

  5. What are the two complementary-pair (either-or) conditions that make an 'Either I or II follows' conclusion valid in syllogisms?

    Either-or is valid when (1) both conclusions individually fail, AND (2) the two conclusions form a complementary pair — same subject and predicate but one is 'Some A are B' and the other 'Some A are not B' (or 'All' vs 'Some...not').

    An assumption must be UNstated (implicit). If it is explicitly stated, it is a given fact, not an assumption. If it is a universally obvious truth not needed for the statement's logic, it is not an implicit assumption either.

  9. In Cause and Effect questions, what is the basic relationship and the key restriction on timing?

    A cause is the event/factor that produces an effect; the cause must occur BEFORE (or simultaneously with) the effect. An event that happens after another cannot be its cause.

  10. In Cause and Effect, what does it mean if two events are 'independent causes' or 'effects of a common cause'?

    Independent causes: each event has its own separate cause, neither causes the other. Effects of a common cause: both events are produced by a third underlying factor, so neither is the cause of the other.

  11. How do you distinguish a Strong argument from a Weak argument?

    A strong argument is directly related to the question, practically relevant, and addresses a real/important aspect of the issue. A weak argument is unrelated, trivial, ambiguous, based on a question/individual opinion, or restates the topic without reasoning.

  12. In Strong vs Weak Arguments, why are arguments that are 'comparative', 'sarcastic', or 'an established universal fact' usually treated as weak?

    Comparative arguments dodge the actual question, sarcastic ones add no logic, and citing an established universal fact merely restates a truism rather than reasoning about the specific issue — so all are typically weak.

  13. In 'Statement and Course of Action', what conditions must a course of action satisfy to be 'follows'?

    A valid course of action must (1) address the problem/situation in the statement, (2) be practical, feasible and implementable, and (3) genuinely improve or solve the matter. Vague, extreme, or impractical actions do not follow.

  14. In Course of Action, how are administrative actions like 'forming a committee' or 'issuing a warning' typically judged?

    They follow only if they are a proportionate, practical response to the specific problem stated. An overreaction (e.g. banning everything) or an underreaction that ignores the core problem does not follow.

  15. For a Linear Arrangement seating problem, what does 'facing North' versus 'facing South' do to left and right?

    For a person facing North, their right is to the east (towards your right when you read the line) and left to the west. For a person facing South, left and right are reversed relative to a North-facer.
