    A net decrease of (x^2/100)%. For example, +20% then -20% gives a net change of -4%.

  3. Successive percentage changes of a% and b% are equivalent to a single change of what?

    A single change of (a + b + ab/100)%, with signs accounted for (use negative for decreases).

  4. In Ratio and Proportion, if a:b = c:d (a proportion), what relation holds between the terms?

    The product of the extremes equals the product of the means: a x d = b x c (cross-multiplication).

  5. If a sum is divided in the ratio 2:3:5, what fraction does the largest share represent of the total?

    5/(2+3+5) = 5/10 = 1/2 of the total.

  6. In a simple partnership where capitals are invested for the same time, how is profit shared?

    Profit is shared in the ratio of the capitals invested.

  7. In a partnership with different investment periods, how is profit divided?

    In the ratio of each partner's (capital x time), i.e., the ratio of their monthly/equivalent capital products.

    SI = (P x R x T)/100, where P = principal, R = rate% per annum, T = time in years.

  12. What is the Compound Interest amount formula for annual compounding?

    A = P(1 + R/100)^T, and CI = A - P.

  13. For 2 years, by how much does Compound Interest exceed Simple Interest on the same principal and rate?

    CI - SI = P x (R/100)^2 for 2 years (this difference equals interest on the first year's interest).

  14. How is the compound interest amount adjusted for half-yearly compounding at rate R% per annum for T years?

    A = P(1 + R/200)^(2T): rate is halved and the number of periods is doubled.

  15. What is the basic relationship between Distance, Speed and Time?

    Distance = Speed x Time; so Speed = Distance/Time and Time = Distance/Speed.

    km/h to m/s: multiply by 5/18. m/s to km/h: multiply by 18/5.

  21. In a leaking cistern, if an inlet fills in x hours and a leak empties in y hours (y>x), what is the net fill time?

    Net rate = 1/x - 1/y, so net time to fill = xy/(y-x) hours.
