Privacy Policy
How Examius collects, uses and stores information — written in plain English.
Last updated 7 August 2026. Applies to the Examius mobile app (app.inparlor.examius) and this website.
The short version
- Your study data — syllabuses, progress, notes, timers, flashcard scheduling — is stored on your device by default and is not sent to us.
- You can use Examius without an account. Signing in is optional and only needed for leaderboards and sync.
- The free version of the app shows ads through Google AdMob, which uses an advertising identifier.
- Purchases are handled by Apple and Google. We never see your card details.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app at any time.
1. Who we are
Examius ("we", "us") publishes the Examius study app and this website. The app's bundle identifier is
app.inparlor.examius. For privacy questions, contact info@examius.com.
2. Study data stored on your device
The core of Examius runs locally. The following is written to your device's own storage and is not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly turn on an account-based feature:
- Which exam syllabuses you have imported, and which subjects, chapters, topics and sub-topics you have marked complete.
- Study sessions and timer history, daily goals, streaks and the study heatmap.
- Flashcard review history and spaced-repetition scheduling state.
- Notes, tasks and reminders you create.
- App settings, including theme, notification preferences and your selected country.
Deleting the app deletes this data. If your device makes its own encrypted backups (iCloud Backup, Google Android Backup), the app's local files may be included in those backups under Apple's or Google's terms, not ours.
3. Optional account and leaderboards
You can create an Examius account by signing in with Google or Apple. You only need this if you want leaderboards, friend groups or to sync progress between devices. If you never sign in, none of the data in this section exists.
When you do sign in, we store on our servers:
- A stable account identifier supplied by Google or Apple, plus the email address associated with it. If you use Apple's Hide My Email, we only ever see the relay address.
- Your display name and chosen username, and your avatar selection.
- Your selected country, so leaderboards can be filtered regionally.
- Aggregate study statistics used to rank you: study XP, total study minutes, current and longest streak, topics completed and flashcards reviewed.
- Any study groups you join and your membership in them.
We do not upload the contents of your syllabus progress, your notes or your individual flashcard answers to power leaderboards — only the aggregate counters listed above.
Leaderboard entries are visible to other Examius users: your username, avatar, country and study statistics. Your email address is never shown to other users.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from Settings → Account → Delete account in the app, or by emailing info@examius.com. Deletion removes your profile, username, country, statistics and group memberships from our servers. Backups containing the data are rotated out within 30 days. Your on-device study data is unaffected and stays with you.
4. Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free tier of Examius shows advertising supplied by Google AdMob. To serve, cap and measure those ads, AdMob and its partners may process:
- Your device's advertising identifier — the Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) on iOS, or the Android Advertising ID (AAID) on Android.
- Approximate location derived from your IP address, device model, operating system version and language.
- Ad interaction events, such as which ads were shown and whether they were tapped.
On iOS, personalised advertising requires your permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads still appear but are non-personalised and the IDFA is not used to track you across apps.
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland, we present a Google-certified consent message before any personalised ads are requested, and you can change that choice later from Settings → Privacy → Ad preferences.
You can remove ads entirely by purchasing the paid tier, at which point no ad requests are made.
Google's handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy & Terms. You can reset or clear your advertising identifier in your device settings at any time.
Consent is collected through Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), which is bundled with the Google Mobile Ads SDK. Ads are only initialised after that consent flow resolves. Google AdMob is the only advertising provider: no AdMob mediation networks are enabled, so no other ad network receives your data.
5. Purchases
Examius offers optional in-app purchases and subscriptions that remove ads and unlock extra features. Payment is processed entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). We never receive or store your card number, billing address or other payment credentials.
We receive from the store a purchase receipt and entitlement status so the app knows what you own. If you are signed in, that entitlement is linked to your account so it follows you across devices. Refunds and cancellations are handled by the store you purchased from, under its own terms.
6. Diagnostics
Examius ships no crash-reporting or analytics SDK. There is no Crashlytics, no Sentry and no product-analytics library in the app, so no crash traces and no usage events are collected from your device.
Our API keeps ordinary server request logs: timestamp, HTTP method and path, response status, response time, your IP address, your account identifier when you are signed in, and your device's user-agent string. They exist to run the service, detect abuse and apply rate limits fairly. They contain none of your study content.
7. This website
examius.com is a static site. It sets no cookies, runs no third-party trackers and needs no consent banner. Our hosting provider keeps standard server access logs, which include IP addresses, for a short period for security and abuse prevention.
8. Children
Examius is intended for exam candidates aged 13 and over (16 in jurisdictions that require it). We do not knowingly collect personal information from younger children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Legal bases and your rights
Where GDPR or UK GDPR applies, we rely on: performance of a contract for account features you ask for, consent for personalised advertising, and legitimate interests for security, fraud prevention and fixing crashes.
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Under CCPA/CPRA you may request disclosure and deletion and opt out of the "sharing" of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising — declining ad personalisation in the app is how you exercise that opt-out. Requests go to info@examius.com; we aim to respond within 30 days.
We do not sell personal information for money.
10. Retention
- On-device study data: kept until you delete it or uninstall the app.
- Account and leaderboard data: kept while the account exists, then deleted, with backups rotated within 30 days.
- Crash reports: retained up to 90 days.
- Server access logs: retained up to 30 days.
11. International transfers
Our servers are located in Europe. If you use Examius from outside the region where a given provider stores data, your information may be transferred internationally under Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.
Our sub-processors are:
- Hetzner Online GmbH — the API and database server, hosted in Falkenstein, Germany.
- Cloudflare, Inc. — DNS, TLS and hosting for this website.
- Google LLC (AdMob) — advertising and consent messaging.
- Google LLC / Apple Inc. — sign-in, and processing of in-app purchases. We never see your payment details.
- Hostinger — email sent to and from our support address.
12. Changes to this policy
If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change affects data we already hold about you, notify you in the app. Continuing to use Examius after a change means you accept the updated policy.
13. Contact
Email info@examius.com with any privacy question, request or complaint. If you are in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
