What are like terms, and how do you combine them?
Like terms have the same variable raised to the same power; combine them by adding or subtracting their coefficients, e.g., 3x + 5x = 8x.
What is a coefficient and what is a constant in an algebraic expression?
A coefficient is the number multiplying a variable; a constant is a term with a fixed value and no variable.
How do you solve a two-step equation like 3x + 4 = 19?
Undo addition/subtraction first (subtract 4 to get 3x = 15), then undo multiplication/division (divide by 3 to get x = 5).
What must you remember when multiplying or dividing both sides of an inequality by a negative number?
You must reverse the direction of the inequality symbol.
What does the product of powers rule state for exponents?
When multiplying powers with the same base, add the exponents: a^m x a^n = a^(m+n).
What does a^0 equal for any nonzero base a, and what does a negative exponent mean?

What is a function?
A relation in which each input (x) is assigned exactly one output (y).
What is the slope-intercept form of a linear equation, and what does each part represent?
y = mx + b, where m is the slope (rate of change) and b is the y-intercept (value of y when x = 0).
How do you calculate the slope of a line between two points?
Slope = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1), the change in y divided by the change in x (rise over run).
How can you tell from a graph whether a relation is a function?
Use the vertical line test: if any vertical line crosses the graph more than once, it is not a function.
What distinguishes a linear function from a nonlinear function?
A linear function has a constant rate of change and graphs as a straight line; a nonlinear function does not have a constant rate of change.
What is the formula for the area and perimeter of a rectangle?
