    A number is divisible by 11 if the difference between the sum of digits in odd positions and the sum of digits in even positions is 0 or a multiple of 11.

  3. Define a prime number and give the only even prime.

    A prime number has exactly two distinct factors: 1 and itself. The only even prime is 2.

  4. What is the difference between co-prime numbers and twin primes?

    Co-prime numbers have HCF = 1 (no common factor besides 1), e.g. 8 and 15. Twin primes are pairs of primes differing by 2, e.g. (11, 13).

  5. How are HCF and LCM of two numbers related to the numbers themselves?

    HCF Ɨ LCM = Product of the two numbers.

  6. What is the divisibility rule for 3 and for 9?

    Divisible by 3 if the sum of digits is divisible by 3; divisible by 9 if the sum of digits is divisible by 9.

  7. In simplification, what does the BODMAS order of operations stand for?

    Brackets, Of (order/powers), Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction — performed left to right within the same level.

  8. In a BODMAS chain, in what order are the four bracket types solved?

    Innermost first: ( ) round/parentheses, then { } curly braces, then [ ] square brackets — vinculum (bar) before all of them.

  9. What is the value of the square of numbers ending in 5, e.g. 35²?

    For (a5)², take a Ɨ (a+1) and append 25. So 35² = 3Ɨ4=12, then 25 → 1225.

  10. List the squares from 11 to 15.

    11²=121, 12²=144, 13²=169, 14²=196, 15²=225.

  11. List the cubes from 1 to 6.

    1³=1, 2³=8, 3³=27, 4³=64, 5³=125, 6³=216.

  12. What is the approximate value of √2, √3 and √5?

    √2 ā‰ˆ 1.414, √3 ā‰ˆ 1.732, √5 ā‰ˆ 2.236.

  13. What is the formula for the square root of a number using the relation between squares?

    √(a²) = |a|; and √(ab) = √a Ɨ √b, √(a/b) = √a / √b (for b ≠ 0).

  14. How do you convert a recurring decimal like 0.333... to a fraction?

    A single repeating digit 0.x̄ = x/9. So 0.333... = 3/9 = 1/3; 0.4545... = 45/99 = 5/11.

  15. Convert 5/8 to a decimal and a percentage.

    5/8 = 0.625 = 62.5%.

  20. A number is increased by 25%. By what percent must the new number be decreased to get back the original?

  21. What is the difference between ratio and proportion?

    A ratio compares two quantities (a:b). A proportion states that two ratios are equal (a:b = c:d), where aƗd = bƗc (product of extremes = product of means).
