  2. What is the divisibility rule for 3, 9, and 11?

    Divisible by 3 if the sum of digits is divisible by 3. Divisible by 9 if the sum of digits is divisible by 9. Divisible by 11 if the difference between the sum of digits in odd positions and even positions is 0 or a multiple of 11.

  3. What is the relationship between HCF and LCM of two numbers?

    HCF x LCM = Product of the two numbers. So for numbers a and b: HCF(a,b) x LCM(a,b) = a x b.

  4. How do you distinguish prime numbers from composite numbers?

    A prime number has exactly two factors: 1 and itself (e.g., 2, 3, 5, 7). A composite number has more than two factors (e.g., 4, 6, 9). The number 1 is neither prime nor composite.

  5. What is the formula to convert a fraction or decimal into a percentage and vice versa?

    To convert a fraction/decimal to a percentage, multiply by 100. To convert a percentage to a fraction/decimal, divide by 100 (e.g., 0.45 = 45%; 25% = 25/100 = 1/4).

  6. How do you calculate percentage increase and percentage decrease?

    Percentage change = (Change / Original value) x 100. Increase uses (New - Old); decrease uses (Old - New), expressed as a positive percent of the original.

    There is a net decrease of (x squared)/100 percent. For example, +20% then -20% gives a net change of -(20x20)/100 = -4%.

  13. What is the rule of alligation used for in mixtures?

    Alligation finds the ratio in which two ingredients at different prices/concentrations must be mixed to get a desired mean value. Ratio of cheaper to dearer = (Dearer price - Mean) : (Mean - Cheaper price).

  14. What is the average speed when a journey is done in two equal distances at speeds x and y?

    Average speed = 2xy / (x + y), the harmonic mean of the two speeds (not the arithmetic mean).

  15. What are the basic formulas for Cost Price, Selling Price, Profit, and Loss?

    Profit = SP - CP (when SP > CP). Loss = CP - SP (when CP > SP). Profit% = (Profit/CP) x 100; Loss% = (Loss/CP) x 100.

  16. How do you find the Selling Price given Cost Price and profit/loss percentage?

    SP = CP x (100 + Profit%)/100 for a profit, or SP = CP x (100 - Loss%)/100 for a loss.
