2. What is the Shahadah and what does it affirm?

   The declaration of faith: 'La ilaha illa Allah, Muhammadur Rasulullah' — there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. It affirms Tawheed and Risalat.

3. How many obligatory (fard) daily prayers are there and what are their names?

   Five: Fajr (dawn), Zuhr (noon), Asr (afternoon), Maghrib (sunset), and Isha (night).

16. Distinguish the Makki period from the Madani period of the Prophet's life.

    Makki (610–622 CE): pre-Hijrah in Makkah, focused on faith, Tawheed, and patience under persecution. Madani (622–632 CE): post-Hijrah in Madinah, focused on law, governance, social order, and warfare.

17. How do Makki Surahs of the Quran generally differ from Madani Surahs in content?

    Makki Surahs are usually shorter, emphasize faith, Tawheed, the Hereafter, and stories of past prophets. Madani Surahs are often longer and cover law, jihad, social/economic rules, and community governance.

18. What was the 'Year of Sorrow' (Aam al-Huzn) and why was it named so?

    The year (around 619 CE) in which both the Prophet's wife Khadijah and his uncle Abu Talib died, depriving him of key support.

19. What was the first battle of Islam, in which year, and its outcome?

    The Battle of Badr, 624 CE (2 AH); the heavily outnumbered Muslims decisively defeated the Quraysh of Makkah.

20. What happened at the Battle of Uhud (625 CE)?

    The Muslims suffered setbacks against the Quraysh after archers left their posts; the Prophet was wounded and his uncle Hamza was martyred.

21. What was the Battle of the Trench (Ghazwa al-Khandaq / Ahzab), and what tactic was used?

    In 627 CE, Madinah was besieged by a confederate army; on Salman al-Farsi's advice, the Muslims dug a trench around the city, repelling the siege.
