What is the difference between an adjective and an adverb?
An adjective modifies a noun or pronoun (a quick runner), while an adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb (runs quickly).
What is a conjunction, and name the two main types?
A conjunction joins words, phrases, or clauses. Types: Coordinating (and, but, or) and Subordinating (because, although, since).
What is an interjection? Give two examples.
An interjection is a word expressing sudden emotion, usually followed by an exclamation mark. Examples: Oh! Alas! Wow! Hurray!
What are the three main verb tenses, and what does each express?
Present (action now or habitual), Past (action already finished), and Future (action yet to happen).
What is the structure of the Present Continuous tense?
Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing (e.g., She is writing a letter).
What is the structure and use of the Present Perfect tense?
Subject + has/have + past participle. It links a past action to the present (e.g., I have finished my work).
What is the structure of the Past Perfect tense and when is it used?
Subject + had + past participle. Used for an action completed before another past action (e.g., He had left before I arrived).
What is the structure of the Future Perfect tense?
Subject + will have + past participle (e.g., By next year, I will have completed my degree).

Which prepositions of time are used with points in time, days, and months/years?
'At' for points in time (at 5 pm), 'on' for days/dates (on Monday), and 'in' for months/years/long periods (in June, in 2024).
What is the difference between 'between' and 'among'?
'Between' is used for two persons or things; 'among' is used for more than two (a group).
Which preposition follows these words: 'composed', 'capable', 'afraid', 'good'?
Composed of, capable of, afraid of, good at.
What is the difference between 'beside' and 'besides'?
'Beside' means next to (sit beside me); 'besides' means in addition to (besides English, she speaks Urdu).

Definite article 'the' (refers to a specific noun) and indefinite articles 'a/an' (refer to a non-specific singular noun).
When is 'a' used versus 'an'?
'A' is used before a consonant sound (a university, a one-rupee note); 'an' is used before a vowel sound (an hour, an honest man).
What are determiners? Give the main categories.
Determiners introduce nouns. Categories: Articles (a, an, the), Demonstratives (this, that), Possessives (my, your), Quantifiers (some, many), and Numbers.
When is the definite article 'the' omitted (zero article)?
Before proper nouns, abstract nouns used generally, names of meals, languages, and plural/uncountable nouns used in a general sense.
What is the difference between 'few', 'a few', and 'the few'?
'Few' = almost none (negative); 'a few' = some (positive); 'the few' = the small number that exists.
