What is a composite number?
A natural number greater than 1 that has more than two factors (i.e., divisible by numbers other than 1 and itself). Example: 4, 6, 8, 9. Note: 1 is neither prime nor composite.
What is the divisibility rule for 3?
A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3. Example: 123 (1+2+3=6, divisible by 3).
What is the divisibility rule for 9?
A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 9. Example: 729 (7+2+9=18, divisible by 9).
What is the divisibility rule for 11?
A number is divisible by 11 if the difference between the sum of digits in odd places and the sum of digits in even places is 0 or a multiple of 11.
What is the divisibility rule for 4 and for 8?
Divisible by 4 if the last two digits form a number divisible by 4. Divisible by 8 if the last three digits form a number divisible by 8.
What is the HCF (Highest Common Factor) of two numbers?
The largest number that divides both numbers exactly without leaving a remainder. Also called GCD (Greatest Common Divisor).
What is the LCM (Lowest Common Multiple) of two numbers?
The smallest number that is exactly divisible by both numbers (the smallest common multiple).
What is the relationship between HCF, LCM and two numbers?
Product of two numbers = HCF x LCM. So one number = (HCF x LCM) / other number.

HCF = 6, LCM = 36. Check: 12 x 18 = 216 = 6 x 36.
How do you find the HCF of fractions?
HCF of fractions = HCF of numerators / LCM of denominators.
How do you find the LCM of fractions?

What is a proper fraction versus an improper fraction?
Proper fraction: numerator < denominator (e.g., 3/5). Improper fraction: numerator >= denominator (e.g., 7/4).
How do you convert a fraction to a decimal?
Divide the numerator by the denominator. Example: 3/4 = 3 divided by 4 = 0.75.
How do you convert the decimal 0.25 to a fraction?
Write it as 25/100, then simplify to 1/4.
How do you add or subtract fractions with different denominators?
Find the LCM of the denominators (common denominator), convert each fraction to that denominator, then add/subtract the numerators.
How do you divide one fraction by another?
Multiply the first fraction by the reciprocal (inverse) of the second. Example: (2/3) / (4/5) = (2/3) x (5/4) = 10/12 = 5/6.
What does BODMAS stand for and in what order are operations performed?
Brackets, Of, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction. Solve brackets first, then 'of', then division and multiplication (left to right), then addition and subtraction (left to right).
