    'All A are C.' (Conclusions like 'All C are A' would NOT be valid; the relationship only follows in the A to C direction.)

  2. In coding-decoding reasoning, if in a code 'CAT' is written as 'DBU', what logic is applied and how would 'DOG' be coded?

    Each letter is shifted one place forward in the alphabet (+1). So DOG becomes EPH.

  3. What is the next number in the series 2, 6, 12, 20, 30, ...? Explain the pattern.

    42. The differences increase by 2 each time (4, 6, 8, 10, 12), so 30 + 12 = 42. The pattern is n(n+1): 1x2, 2x3, 3x4, 4x5, 5x6, 6x7.

  4. In blood relations, if A is the brother of B, B is the son of C, and C is the wife of D, how is A related to D?

    A is the son of D (since C is D's wife and B is C's son, B is also D's son, so A, B's brother, is also D's son).

  5. In decision making, what is the difference between a 'programmed' and a 'non-programmed' decision?

    A programmed decision is routine and repetitive, handled by established rules/procedures. A non-programmed decision is novel, unstructured, and requires judgment for unique situations.

  6. In ethical decision making for civil servants, what is a 'conflict of interest'?

    A situation where a public official's personal interests (financial or otherwise) could improperly influence the performance of their official duties, compromising impartiality.

    Divisible by 3: the sum of all digits is divisible by 3. Divisible by 11: the difference between the sum of digits at odd positions and even positions is 0 or a multiple of 11.

  10. What is the HCF and LCM relationship for two numbers, and state the formula linking them.

    For two numbers a and b: HCF x LCM = a x b (the product of the two numbers equals the product of their HCF and LCM).

  11. What is the formula for compound interest, and how does it differ from simple interest?

    Compound Interest amount: A = P(1 + r/100)^n, so CI = A - P. Simple interest: SI = P x r x n / 100. In CI, interest is calculated on the accumulated amount (principal + previous interest); in SI, only on the original principal.

  12. If a number is increased by 20% and then decreased by 20%, what is the net percentage change?

    A net decrease of 4%. Successive change formula: x + y + xy/100 = 20 + (-20) + (20)(-20)/100 = -4%.

  13. What is the formula relating speed, distance, and time, and how do you convert km/hr to m/s?

    Speed = Distance / Time. To convert km/hr to m/s, multiply by 5/18; to convert m/s to km/hr, multiply by 18/5.

  14. Two trains of lengths L1 and L2 moving in opposite directions at speeds u and v cross each other in how much time?

    Time = (L1 + L2) / (u + v). For opposite directions, relative speed is the sum of the speeds; for the same direction it would be (u - v).

  15. If A can do a piece of work in 'a' days and B in 'b' days, how long will they take working together?

    Together they take ab/(a+b) days. (Their combined one-day work is 1/a + 1/b, and time is the reciprocal of that.)

  16. State the formula for the area and circumference of a circle of radius r.

    Area = pi x r squared. Circumference = 2 x pi x r (or pi x diameter).

  17. What is the formula for the volume and total surface area of a cylinder with radius r and height h?

    Volume = pi x r squared x h. Total surface area = 2 x pi x r x (r + h).

  18. State the volume formula for a sphere and a cone of radius r (cone height h).

    Sphere volume = (4/3) x pi x r cubed. Cone volume = (1/3) x pi x r squared x h.

  19. In a pie chart representing data, how do you convert a category's percentage share into degrees of the circle?

    Degrees = (percentage / 100) x 360. Equivalently, each 1% equals 3.6 degrees of the central angle.

  20. In data interpretation, how do you calculate the percentage change between an old value and a new value?

    Percentage change = ((New value - Old value) / Old value) x 100. A positive result is an increase; a negative result is a decrease.

  21. What is the formula for the arithmetic mean (average), and how is it affected by adding a value equal to the current mean?

    Mean = (sum of all observations) / (number of observations). Adding a value equal to the current mean leaves the mean unchanged.

  22. What is the basic formula for the probability of an event, and what is the probability range?

    Probability = (number of favorable outcomes) / (total number of possible outcomes). Probability always lies between 0 (impossible) and 1 (certain).

  23. What is the difference between a permutation and a combination, and state their formulas for selecting r from n.

    Permutation (order matters): nPr = n! / (n-r)!. Combination (order does not matter): nCr = n! / (r! x (n-r)!).

  24. For mutually exclusive events A and B, what is P(A or B), and what is the probability of getting at least one head when tossing two fair coins?

    For mutually exclusive events, P(A or B) = P(A) + P(B). For two coins, P(at least one head) = 1 - P(no heads) = 1 - 1/4 = 3/4.
