SSC GD Constable Elementary Mathematics Flashcards
50 question-and-answer cards covering Elementary Mathematics as it is examined in SSC GD Constable. 24 of them are printed below, taken from across the deck — no signup, no paywall on the preview.
24 sample cards from the Elementary Mathematics deck
Sampled from the end of the deck, so these are different cards from the ones shown on the syllabus page.
What is the cube root of 64 and of 125?
The cube root of 64 is 4; the cube root of 125 is 5.
What is a ratio?
A comparison of two quantities of the same kind by division, written a:b (read 'a to b'), equal to the fraction a/b.
What is a proportion?
A statement that two ratios are equal, a:b = c:d (also written a:b::c:d).
In a proportion a:b = c:d, what is the rule of cross multiplication?
Product of extremes = product of means: a x d = b x c.
How do you divide an amount in the ratio a:b?
First part = amount x a/(a+b); second part = amount x b/(a+b).
What is the mean proportional between two numbers a and b?
The square root of (a x b).
What is the formula to convert a fraction or ratio to a percentage?
Multiply by 100: percentage = (value/total) x 100.
How do you convert a percentage to a fraction?
Divide by 100 and simplify (e.g., 25% = 25/100 = 1/4).
How do you find x% of a number N?
Multiply: (x/100) x N.
What is the percentage increase formula?
Percentage increase = (Increase / Original value) x 100.
If a quantity increases by x% then decreases by x%, what is the net effect?
A net decrease of (x squared)/100 percent (it never returns to the original value).
What is the formula for the average (arithmetic mean) of a set of values?
Average = (Sum of all observations) / (Number of observations).
How do you find the total sum if you know the average and the number of items?
Sum = Average x Number of items.
What is the average of the first n natural numbers?
(n + 1) / 2.
In partnership, how are profits shared when partners invest different amounts for the same time period?
Profit is divided in the ratio of their investments (capitals).
How is profit shared in a partnership when both capital and time differ?
In the ratio of (capital x time) for each partner.
What is the difference between an active (working) partner and a sleeping partner?
A working partner manages the business (may get an extra salary/commission); a sleeping partner only invests capital and shares profit, without managing.
What is alligation?
A rule to find the ratio in which two or more ingredients at given prices/concentrations must be mixed to produce a mixture of a desired mean price/concentration.
State the rule of alligation for finding the mixing ratio.
(Quantity of cheaper)/(Quantity of dearer) = (Price of dearer - Mean price)/(Mean price - Price of cheaper).
In a mixture problem, if a vessel has milk and water in ratio 3:2 in 20 litres, how much is milk?
12 litres. Milk = 20 x 3/(3+2) = 20 x 3/5 = 12 litres.
What are the formulas for profit and loss?
Profit = SP - CP (when SP > CP); Loss = CP - SP (when CP > SP), where SP is selling price and CP is cost price.
What are the formulas for profit percent and loss percent?
Profit% = (Profit/CP) x 100; Loss% = (Loss/CP) x 100. Both are calculated on cost price.
What is the difference between marked price (MP) and selling price (SP)?
Marked price (list price) is the price tagged on an item before discount; selling price is the actual price after discount: SP = MP - Discount.
What is the formula for discount and discount percent?
Discount = Marked Price - Selling Price; Discount% = (Discount / Marked Price) x 100. Discount is calculated on the marked price.
What this deck covers
The Elementary Mathematics deck follows the SSC GD Constable Elementary Mathematics syllabus — 6 chapters and 26 topics — so questions land on material that is genuinely examinable rather than trivia around it. That works out to roughly 8.3 cards per chapter.
Answers are written to be recallable, not just readable — averaging about 76 characters, which is long enough to carry the reasoning and short enough to say out loud.
A deck like this earns its keep on the second and third pass. Read the syllabus first so you know the shape of the subject, then use the cards to find the specific facts that have not stuck.

50 cards. This page previews 24 of them, sampled evenly across the deck so you can judge the difficulty before installing anything.
Are these SSC GD Constable flashcards free?
Yes. The preview here is free to read with no signup, and the full 50-card deck is free inside the Examius app.
What do the Elementary Mathematics cards cover?
They follow the SSC GD Constable Elementary Mathematics syllabus — 6 chapters and 26 topics — so the questions track what is actually examinable.
How should I use these flashcards?
