What is the key principle when solving Data Sufficiency questions?
Evaluate each statement independently first, then together; determine sufficiency only — do not waste time finding the actual numeric answer.
What is Classification ("Odd one out") in reasoning?
A task to identify the one item in a group that does not share the common property (category, pattern, or rule) held by all the others.
What common bases are used to classify items in Classification problems?
Shared category, similar properties, mathematical relationships (squares, primes, multiples), letter patterns, or functional similarity.
In number Classification, which is the odd one: 9, 16, 25, 30?
30 — the others (9, 16, 25) are perfect squares; 30 is not.
What is a Series in reasoning, and what are its two main types?
A sequence following a hidden rule. Two types: number series (arithmetic/geometric/squares etc.) and alphabet/letter series (positional patterns).
In a number Series, what pattern do 2, 6, 12, 20, 30 follow?
Differences increase by 2 each time (4, 6, 8, 10); equivalently n(n+1): 1×2, 2×3, 3×4, 4×5, 5×6.
How do you identify the rule in an alphabet Series?
Convert letters to their position numbers and check the gaps/pattern between consecutive positions (e.g., +2, +3, skip alternate letters).
What is a mixed/alphanumeric Series?
A sequence combining letters, numbers, and sometimes symbols where you track separate patterns for each element type.
What are Puzzles in reasoning, and what is the standard solving approach?
Logical arrangement problems (e.g., scheduling, floors, boxes) solved by tabulating given clues, applying definite clues first, then eliminating possibilities to fix positions.
What is the difference between linear and circular Seating Arrangement?
Linear: people sit in a row facing one direction (left/right fixed). Circular: people sit around a table where facing center reverses left/right compared to facing outward.
In a circular Seating Arrangement where everyone faces the center, where is a person's right neighbor?
When facing the center, a person's right side is the seat in the clockwise direction (toward their right hand), and left is counter-clockwise — opposite to facing outward.
In Seating Arrangement, what does "immediate neighbour" versus "between" mean?
"Immediate neighbour" means seated directly next to (adjacent); "between" means seated somewhere amid two named people, not necessarily adjacent.
In a circular arrangement of n people facing the center, how is the person exactly opposite found?
For an even n, the opposite person sits n/2 seats away in either direction.
What is a Mirror Image in reasoning?
The image formed when an object is placed before a vertical mirror — left and right are interchanged (laterally inverted) while top and bottom stay the same.
Which capital letters look the same in a (vertical) Mirror Image?
A, H, I, M, O, T, U, V, W, X, Y — symmetric about the vertical axis, so they remain unchanged.
What is a Water Image in reasoning?
The image formed when an object is reflected in water — top and bottom are interchanged (vertically inverted) while left and right stay the same.
Which capital letters look the same in a Water Image?
C, D, E, H, I, K, O, X, B — letters symmetric about the horizontal axis remain unchanged when reflected vertically.
In a Mirror Image, how does the order of a sequence of digits or letters change?
The sequence is reversed left-to-right (the last character appears first) in addition to each character being laterally inverted.
What is the key difference between Mirror Image and Water Image?
Mirror image inverts left-right (lateral inversion, vertical axis); water image inverts top-bottom (vertical inversion, horizontal axis).
What does a Paper Folding (and punching) problem test?
Spatial visualization — predicting the pattern of holes/cuts on a paper after it is folded, punched, and then unfolded.
What is the unfolding rule for holes in a Paper Folding problem?
Each fold doubles the holes by mirror symmetry about the fold line; unfold in reverse order, reflecting punched holes across each crease to locate all holes.
If a square paper is folded once and one hole is punched, how many holes appear when unfolded?
Two holes — the punched hole plus its mirror reflection across the single fold line.
In Paper Folding (dot/transparent sheet folding), what does folding along a line produce?
The pattern is reflected across the fold line so the resulting figure is symmetric about that crease, mapping each mark to a mirrored position.
What general skill category do Mirror Images, Water Images, and Paper Folding all belong to?
