PPSC One-Paper MCQ Test Mathematics & Computer Science Flashcards
50 question-and-answer cards covering Mathematics & Computer Science as it is examined in PPSC One-Paper MCQ Test. 24 of them are printed below, taken from across the deck — no signup, no paywall on the preview.
24 sample cards from the Mathematics & Computer Science deck
Sampled from the end of the deck, so these are different cards from the ones shown on the syllabus page.
Define acute, right, obtuse, straight, and reflex angles by their degree measures.
Acute: less than 90 degrees; Right: exactly 90 degrees; Obtuse: between 90 and 180 degrees; Straight: exactly 180 degrees; Reflex: between 180 and 360 degrees.
What are complementary angles and supplementary angles?
Complementary angles sum to 90 degrees; supplementary angles sum to 180 degrees.
What is the sum of the interior angles of a triangle and of a quadrilateral?
Triangle: 180 degrees; Quadrilateral: 360 degrees. The sum of interior angles of an n-sided polygon = (n-2) x 180 degrees.
Define LCM and HCF (GCD).
LCM (Least Common Multiple) is the smallest number divisible by each of the given numbers. HCF/GCD (Highest Common Factor) is the largest number that divides each of the given numbers exactly.
What is the relationship between the product of two numbers and their LCM and HCF?
Product of two numbers = LCM x HCF. So LCM x HCF = first number x second number.
Find the LCM and HCF of 12 and 18.
HCF = 6 and LCM = 36. (12 = 2^2 x 3; 18 = 2 x 3^2; HCF = 2 x 3 = 6; LCM = 2^2 x 3^2 = 36.)
How do you convert the fraction 3/4 into a decimal and a percentage?
3/4 = 0.75 as a decimal and 75% as a percentage (multiply the decimal by 100).
What is the difference between a terminating and a recurring (non-terminating repeating) decimal?
A terminating decimal ends after a finite number of digits (e.g., 0.25). A recurring decimal has a digit or block that repeats infinitely (e.g., 1/3 = 0.333...).
State the formula for Simple Interest.
Simple Interest (SI) = (P x R x T) / 100, where P = Principal, R = Rate per annum, T = Time in years. Amount = P + SI.
State the formula for Compound Interest (compounded annually).
Amount A = P(1 + R/100)^T; Compound Interest = A - P, where P = Principal, R = Rate, T = Time in years.
What is the key difference between Simple Interest and Compound Interest?
Simple Interest is calculated only on the original principal each period. Compound Interest is calculated on the principal plus accumulated interest, so interest earns interest.
What is the difference between computer hardware and software?
Hardware is the physical, tangible components of a computer (CPU, RAM, monitor, keyboard). Software is the set of programs and instructions that tell the hardware what to do.
What is the CPU, and what are its two main components?
The CPU (Central Processing Unit) is the 'brain' of the computer. Its two main parts are the ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) for calculations/logic and the CU (Control Unit) that directs operations.
What is the difference between RAM and ROM?
RAM (Random Access Memory) is volatile temporary memory that loses data when power is off. ROM (Read Only Memory) is non-volatile permanent memory that retains data without power.
What is the difference between system software and application software?
System software manages hardware and runs the computer (e.g., operating systems, device drivers). Application software performs specific user tasks (e.g., MS Word, web browsers, games).
What is an operating system, and give three examples.
An operating system (OS) is system software that manages hardware, software resources, and provides services for programs. Examples: Windows, Linux, macOS, Android, iOS.
Which keyboard shortcuts in MS Office perform Copy, Cut, Paste, Undo, and Save?
Copy = Ctrl+C, Cut = Ctrl+X, Paste = Ctrl+V, Undo = Ctrl+Z, Save = Ctrl+S.
What are the default file extensions for MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint documents?
MS Word: .docx; MS Excel: .xlsx; MS PowerPoint: .pptx (older formats: .doc, .xls, .ppt).
In MS Excel, what is a cell, and what symbol begins a formula?
A cell is the intersection of a row and a column where data is entered. Every formula begins with the equals sign (=), e.g., =SUM(A1:A5).
What is a computer network, and what do LAN, WAN, and MAN stand for?
A computer network connects two or more computers to share resources and data. LAN = Local Area Network (small area), MAN = Metropolitan Area Network (city), WAN = Wide Area Network (large/global area, e.g., the Internet).
What do the abbreviations WWW, HTTP, URL, and IP stand for?
WWW = World Wide Web; HTTP = HyperText Transfer Protocol; URL = Uniform Resource Locator; IP = Internet Protocol.
What is the difference between the Internet and the World Wide Web?
The Internet is the global network of interconnected computers (the infrastructure). The World Wide Web (WWW) is a service running on the Internet — a system of interlinked web pages accessed via browsers.
What do the abbreviations CPU, RAM, ROM, GUI, and OS stand for?
CPU = Central Processing Unit; RAM = Random Access Memory; ROM = Read Only Memory; GUI = Graphical User Interface; OS = Operating System.
Name the technology that defined each of the five generations of computers.
1st: Vacuum tubes; 2nd: Transistors; 3rd: Integrated Circuits (ICs); 4th: Microprocessors (VLSI); 5th: Artificial Intelligence (ULSI / parallel processing).
What this deck covers
The Mathematics & Computer Science deck follows the PPSC One-Paper MCQ Test Mathematics & Computer Science syllabus — 4 chapters and 14 topics — so questions land on material that is genuinely examinable rather than trivia around it. That works out to roughly 12.5 cards per chapter.
Answers are written to be recallable, not just readable — averaging about 141 characters, which is long enough to carry the reasoning and short enough to say out loud.
A deck like this earns its keep on the second and third pass. Read the syllabus first so you know the shape of the subject, then use the cards to find the specific facts that have not stuck.
