    An Alphanumeric Series is a sequence mixing letters and numbers (and sometimes symbols); the task may be to find the next term or to answer questions about positions of items meeting given conditions.

  5. In an Alphanumeric Series, what is a common question form besides 'find the next term'?

    Counting how many items satisfy a condition, such as how many numbers are immediately preceded by a letter, or finding the item that is a certain number of positions from a reference point.

    A Word Analogy expresses a relationship between a pair of words and asks you to find another word that has the same relationship to a given word, i.e. A is to B as C is to ?.

    Sock (or Shoe). A glove covers the hand, so the item that covers the foot is a sock/shoe.

    Cow. A cub is the young of a lion, so a calf is the young of a cow (young-to-adult relationship).

  16. What is the recommended method for solving a Word Analogy?

    State the relationship between the first pair in a clear sentence, then apply that exact relationship to the second pair to find the missing word.

  17. Define a Number Analogy.

    A Number Analogy gives a relationship between numbers in one pair and asks for the number that bears the same relationship in a second pair, e.g. 4 : 16 :: 5 : ?.

  18. Complete the number analogy: 4 : 16 :: 5 : ___

    25. The relationship is square (4^2 = 16), so 5^2 = 25.

    A Relationship-Based Analogy is built on a specific logical relationship between the terms, such as cause-effect, part-whole, worker-tool, synonym, antonym, or object-function, which must be recognized and reproduced in the answer pair.

  22. List four common relationship types used in Relationship-Based Analogies.

    Common types include: synonym (big-large), antonym (hot-cold), part-whole (wheel-car), cause-effect (fire-smoke), worker-tool (carpenter-saw), and animal-young (dog-puppy).

  23. Define Word Classification (odd-one-out).

    Word Classification is a question where you identify which word does not belong to a group because it lacks a common property shared by the others (the odd one out), or you group items that share a property.
