   An SOP is a written statement of your motivations, goals and reasons for pursuing the program. SOP-based questions probe your career clarity, motivation for the MBA/program, and consistency with your stated goals.

9. How should you answer 'Why do you want to do an MBA?'

   Connect your past experience and skill gaps to specific career goals the MBA fills, showing clarity, self-awareness and a logical career progression rather than generic ambition.

10. Why is IIFT particularly associated with International Business, and what does this imply for interviews?

    IIFT (Indian Institute of Foreign Trade) specializes in international business and trade, so interviews often probe awareness of global trade, exports/imports, and IB current affairs.

11. What is the difference between a free trade agreement (FTA) and a customs union?

16. What does FDI stand for and how does it differ from FII?

17. How should you handle work-experience questions if you are a fresher?

    Highlight internships, live projects, academic projects, leadership roles and extracurricular achievements as substitutes, framing the skills and learnings gained from them.

18. What is a strong way to answer 'Where do you see yourself in 5 years?'

    Give a realistic, specific short-to-medium-term goal aligned with the program's outcomes, showing ambition with a logical, achievable path rather than a vague or grandiose claim.

19. How should you explain a gap or low academic score in an interview?

    Be honest and brief, take ownership without excuses, give a genuine reason, and pivot to what you learned or how you improved/compensated since then.

20. What is the STAR method for answering situational/HR questions?

    Situation (context), Task (your responsibility), Action (what you did), Result (the outcome) - a structure for giving concrete, evidence-based behavioral answers.

21. What is the difference between an HR question and a situational question?

    HR questions probe personality, motivation and fit ('What are your weaknesses?'); situational questions present a hypothetical or past scenario to assess judgment and behavior ('What would you do if a teammate didn't contribute?').

22. How should you answer 'What is your greatest weakness?'

    State a genuine, non-fatal weakness, then describe concrete steps you are taking to improve it, showing self-awareness and a growth mindset.

23. How should you respond to an opinion-based current-affairs question in an interview?

    Take a clear, reasoned stance backed by facts, acknowledge the opposing view to show balance, and remain composed and non-dogmatic even if the panel challenges you.

24. Why is current-affairs awareness important for IIFT GD/PI, and what areas should be prioritized?
