    A Database Management System is software to create, store, manage, and retrieve data in a database (e.g., Oracle, MySQL, MS Access, SQL Server).

  2. In a relational database, what are a row and a column called?

    A row is a record (tuple); a column is a field (attribute). Data is stored in tables (relations).

  3. What is a Primary Key in a database?

    A column (or set of columns) that uniquely identifies each record in a table; it cannot be null or duplicated.

  4. What does SQL stand for and what is it used for?

    Structured Query Language; it is the standard language used to create, query, update, and manage relational databases.

  5. What is the difference between LAN, MAN, and WAN?

    LAN (Local Area Network) covers a small area like an office; MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) covers a city; WAN (Wide Area Network) covers large areas/countries (e.g., the Internet).

  6. Name the common network topologies.

    Bus, Star, Ring, Mesh, Tree, and Hybrid topology.

  7. In a Star topology, what central device connects all nodes?

    A hub or switch; all nodes connect to this central device, so if it fails the whole network fails.

  8. What is a protocol in networking, and name one common example.

    A protocol is a set of rules governing data communication. Examples: TCP/IP, HTTP, FTP, SMTP.

  9. What does the Internet's TCP/IP protocol suite do?

    TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) ensures reliable, ordered delivery of data; IP (Internet Protocol) handles addressing and routing of packets between devices.

  10. What does an IP address do and name its two versions?

    An IP address uniquely identifies a device on a network. IPv4 is 32-bit (e.g., 192.168.1.1); IPv6 is 128-bit.

  11. What is a URL and what does HTTP/HTTPS stand for?

    URL = Uniform Resource Locator (web address). HTTP = HyperText Transfer Protocol; HTTPS is the secure (encrypted) version.

  13. What do the email protocols SMTP, POP3, and IMAP do?

    SMTP sends outgoing mail; POP3 downloads mail to one device (removing from server); IMAP syncs mail across multiple devices (kept on server).

  14. In email, what is the difference between CC and BCC?

    CC (Carbon Copy) sends a visible copy to others; BCC (Blind Carbon Copy) sends a hidden copy so other recipients cannot see those addresses.

  15. What is malware and name common types.

    Malware is malicious software designed to harm/exploit systems. Types: virus, worm, Trojan horse, spyware, ransomware, adware.

  16. What is the difference between a virus and a worm?

    A virus attaches to a file and needs a host/user action to spread; a worm is standalone and self-replicates across networks without user action.

  17. What is phishing?

    A cyber attack using fake emails/websites that impersonate trusted entities to trick users into revealing sensitive data like passwords or bank details.

  18. What is a firewall?

    A network security system (hardware or software) that monitors and controls incoming and outgoing traffic based on security rules, acting as a barrier against unauthorized access.

  19. What is the purpose of antivirus software?

    To detect, prevent, and remove malware (viruses, worms, Trojans) from a computer (e.g., Norton, McAfee, Quick Heal).
