What would yellow, sooty or lazy flames on a gas hob burner indicate?
Incomplete combustion due to insufficient primary aeration, blocked/dirty burner ports, incorrect injector, or low gas pressure — producing soot and potentially carbon monoxide. The cause must be found and corrected before the appliance is left in service.
How is the soundness of a bayonet connection verified after fitting the cooker?
With gas on, apply approved leak-detection fluid (or use a tightness test) around the bayonet plug/socket joint and check for bubbles/leakage; the self-sealing socket and engaged plug must show no escape of gas.
Explain what a self-sealing bayonet socket does when the cooker is unplugged.
