Move 3 units right along the x-axis, then 2 units down parallel to the y-axis; the point lies in the fourth quadrant.
What is the measure of a straight angle and of a complete angle?
A straight angle is 180 degrees; a complete angle is 360 degrees.
Define complementary and supplementary angles.
Two angles are complementary if their sum is 90 degrees, and supplementary if their sum is 180 degrees.
What is the Linear Pair Axiom?
If a ray stands on a line, the sum of the two adjacent angles formed is 180 degrees; conversely, if the sum is 180 degrees the non-common arms form a line.
What can you say about vertically opposite angles?
When two lines intersect, the vertically opposite angles are equal.
When a transversal cuts two parallel lines, what is the relation between corresponding angles and between alternate interior angles?
Corresponding angles are equal and alternate interior angles are equal (co-interior angles are supplementary).
State the Angle Sum Property of a triangle.
The sum of the three interior angles of a triangle is 180 degrees.
State the Exterior Angle Property of a triangle.
An exterior angle of a triangle equals the sum of the two interior opposite angles.
List the four main congruence rules for triangles.
SAS, ASA, AAS, and SSS (plus RHS for right triangles).
What does the RHS congruence rule state?
Two right triangles are congruent if the hypotenuse and one side of one equal the hypotenuse and corresponding side of the other.
In a triangle, what is the relationship between the larger angle and the side opposite it?
The side opposite the larger angle is longer; equivalently, the larger angle is opposite the longer side.
State the Triangle Inequality.
The sum of the lengths of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the length of the third side.
State the property of angles and sides in an isosceles triangle.
Angles opposite to equal sides are equal, and sides opposite to equal angles are equal.
What is the formula for the area of a triangle using Heron's formula?
Area = sqrt(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)), where s = (a+b+c)/2 is the semi-perimeter.
What does it mean for two figures to lie on the same base and between the same parallels, and what is the area relation?
Parallelograms on the same base and between the same parallels are equal in area; a triangle has half the area of a parallelogram on the same base and between the same parallels.
Give the formula for the curved surface area and total surface area of a right circular cylinder.
CSA = 2(pi)rh; TSA = 2(pi)r(h + r).
Give the curved surface area and volume of a right circular cone.
CSA = (pi)rl (where l is slant height); Volume = (1/3)(pi)r^2 h.
Give the surface area and volume of a sphere of radius r.
Surface area = 4(pi)r^2; Volume = (4/3)(pi)r^3.
How do you find the mean, median, and mode of ungrouped data?
Mean = sum of observations divided by number of observations; Median = the middle value when data is arranged in order; Mode = the most frequently occurring observation.
What is the empirical (experimental) definition of the probability of an event E?
P(E) = (number of trials in which E happened) / (total number of trials), and 0 <= P(E) <= 1.
