ASI Police Test Everyday Science and Computer Flashcards
50 question-and-answer cards covering Everyday Science and Computer as it is examined in ASI Police Test. 24 of them are printed below, taken from across the deck — no signup, no paywall on the preview.
24 sample cards from the Everyday Science and Computer deck
Sampled from the end of the deck, so these are different cards from the ones shown on the syllabus page.
What is the difference between an acid and a base?
An acid releases H⁺ ions and has pH below 7 (sour taste); a base releases OH⁻ ions and has pH above 7 (bitter, slippery).
What is formed when an acid reacts with a base?
A salt and water (neutralization reaction).
What colour does litmus paper turn in acids and in bases?
Blue litmus turns red in acids; red litmus turns blue in bases.
What is rusting, and what two substances are required for it?
Rusting is the oxidation of iron to form iron oxide; it requires oxygen and water (moisture).
What gas is released when a metal reacts with an acid?
Hydrogen gas.
What is photosynthesis and its basic equation?
The process by which plants make food using sunlight: Carbon dioxide + Water → Glucose + Oxygen (in presence of sunlight and chlorophyll).
What is combustion?
A rapid chemical reaction of a substance with oxygen that produces heat and light (burning).
How many bones are in the adult human body, and how many chambers in the heart?
The adult human body has 206 bones; the heart has 4 chambers (two atria and two ventricles).
What is the function of red blood cells?
To carry oxygen (via haemoglobin) from the lungs to body tissues and carry carbon dioxide back.
Which organ is the largest in the human body, and which is the main organ of the excretory system?
The largest organ is the skin; the kidney is the main organ of the excretory system.
What is the function of the respiratory system?
To take in oxygen and remove carbon dioxide through breathing; gas exchange occurs in the lungs (alveoli).
Which deficiency causes scurvy, and which vitamin prevents it?
Scurvy is caused by a deficiency of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid).
Which vitamin deficiency causes night blindness, and which causes rickets?
Night blindness is caused by Vitamin A deficiency; rickets is caused by Vitamin D deficiency.
What causes diseases like malaria and dengue, and how are they transmitted?
Malaria is caused by a Plasmodium parasite via the female Anopheles mosquito; dengue is a viral disease spread by the Aedes mosquito.
What is the difference between a communicable and a non-communicable disease?
A communicable (infectious) disease spreads from person to person (e.g., TB, flu); a non-communicable disease does not spread (e.g., diabetes, cancer).
What gas do plants release during the day and absorb, and what is the role of chlorophyll?
Plants release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide during photosynthesis; chlorophyll is the green pigment that absorbs sunlight for the process.
What is the difference between hardware and software?
Hardware is the physical components of a computer (e.g., keyboard, CPU); software is the set of programs/instructions that run on it (e.g., Windows, MS Word).
What is the CPU, and what is it called?
The Central Processing Unit, called the 'brain' of the computer; it processes instructions and performs calculations (contains the ALU and Control Unit).
What is the difference between RAM and ROM?
RAM (Random Access Memory) is temporary, volatile memory lost when power is off; ROM (Read Only Memory) is permanent, non-volatile memory.
Give two examples each of input and output devices.
Input devices: keyboard and mouse (also scanner, microphone). Output devices: monitor and printer (also speakers).
What is an operating system, and give two examples.
System software that manages computer hardware and software resources; examples include Windows, Linux, macOS, and Android.
What is the smallest unit of computer data, and how many bits make a byte?
The smallest unit is the bit (binary digit); 8 bits make 1 byte.
Which MS Office program is used for spreadsheets, and which for presentations?
MS Excel is used for spreadsheets (calculations and tables); MS PowerPoint is used for presentations (slides).
What is the difference between system software and application software?
System software runs and manages the computer itself (e.g., operating systems); application software performs specific user tasks (e.g., MS Word, browsers).
What this deck covers
The Everyday Science and Computer deck follows the ASI Police Test Everyday Science and Computer syllabus — 5 chapters and 16 topics — so questions land on material that is genuinely examinable rather than trivia around it. That works out to roughly 10.0 cards per chapter.
Answers are written to be recallable, not just readable — averaging about 106 characters, which is long enough to carry the reasoning and short enough to say out loud.
A deck like this earns its keep on the second and third pass. Read the syllabus first so you know the shape of the subject, then use the cards to find the specific facts that have not stuck.
Everyday Science and Computer flashcards FAQ
How many Everyday Science and Computer flashcards are in this ASI Police Test deck?
50 cards. This page previews 24 of them, sampled evenly across the deck so you can judge the difficulty before installing anything.
Are these ASI Police Test flashcards free?
Yes. The preview here is free to read with no signup, and the full 50-card deck is free inside the Examius app.
What do the Everyday Science and Computer cards cover?
They follow the ASI Police Test Everyday Science and Computer syllabus — 5 chapters and 16 topics — so the questions track what is actually examinable.
How should I use these flashcards?
Read the syllabus first so you know the shape of the subject, then drill the deck. Examius schedules each card with spaced repetition, so cards you keep missing come back sooner and ones you know drift further apart.
