    An equation of the form ax + b = 0 (a not 0); the degree is 1 and it has exactly one solution, x = -b/a.

  2. What does the slope-intercept form y = mx + c tell you?

    m is the slope (gradient) of the line and c is the y-intercept (where the line crosses the y-axis).

  3. What is the formula for the slope of a line through points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2)?

    Slope m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1).

  4. When does a system of two linear equations have a unique solution, no solution, or infinitely many?

    Unique: a1/a2 not equal to b1/b2 (lines intersect). No solution: a1/a2 = b1/b2 not equal to c1/c2 (parallel). Infinite: a1/a2 = b1/b2 = c1/c2 (same line).

  5. What is the standard form of a quadratic equation?

    ax squared + bx + c = 0, where a, b, c are constants and a is not 0.

  6. State the quadratic formula.

    x = (-b plus or minus the square root of (b squared - 4ac)) / (2a).

  7. What is the discriminant of a quadratic, and what does its value indicate?

    D = b squared - 4ac. If D > 0: two distinct real roots; D = 0: one repeated real root; D < 0: no real (complex) roots.

  8. For ax squared + bx + c = 0, what are the sum and product of the roots?

    Sum of roots = -b/a; Product of roots = c/a.

  9. State the difference of squares factorization.

    a squared - b squared = (a - b)(a + b).

  10. Expand (a + b) squared and (a - b) squared.

    (a + b) squared = a squared + 2ab + b squared; (a - b) squared = a squared - 2ab + b squared.

  21. State the Pythagorean theorem.

    In a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse equals the sum of the squares of the other two sides: c squared = a squared + b squared.

    Sum of interior angles = (n - 2) x 180 degrees.

  23. What are the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle of radius r?

    Area = pi x r squared; Circumference = 2 x pi x r.
