1. State Newton's First Law of Motion.

   A body remains at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. It is also called the Law of Inertia.

2. What is the formula for force according to Newton's Second Law of Motion?

   Force = mass x acceleration (F = ma). Its SI unit is the newton (N).

3. Define momentum and give its SI unit.

   Momentum is the product of mass and velocity (p = mv). Its SI unit is kilogram metre per second (kg m/s).

4. What is the difference between speed and velocity?

   Speed is a scalar quantity (only magnitude); velocity is a vector quantity (magnitude with direction).

5. What is the value of acceleration due to gravity (g) on Earth?

   Approximately 9.8 m/s squared (often taken as 9.8 or 9.81 m/s squared).

6. State the work-energy relationship: what is the formula for work done?

   Work = Force x Displacement (W = F x d), measured in joules (J). Work is done only when force causes displacement.

7. What are the formulas for kinetic energy and potential energy?

   Kinetic energy KE = (1/2)mv squared; gravitational potential energy PE = mgh.

8. State the Law of Conservation of Energy.

   Energy can neither be created nor destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another. Total energy remains constant.

9. What is the SI unit of power and how is power calculated?

   Power = Work / Time, measured in watts (W). 1 watt = 1 joule per second.

10. What are the three modes of heat transfer?

    Conduction (through solids by contact), convection (through fluids by movement), and radiation (through electromagnetic waves, no medium needed).

11. What is the difference between heat and temperature?

    Heat is the total thermal energy transferred (measured in joules); temperature is the measure of average kinetic energy of particles (measured in kelvin/Celsius).

12. What is the speed of light in vacuum?

    Approximately 3 x 10 to the power 8 metres per second (300,000 km/s).

13. Differentiate reflection and refraction of light.

    Reflection is the bouncing back of light from a surface; refraction is the bending of light as it passes from one medium to another due to a change in speed.

14. Why does the sky appear blue?

    Due to the scattering of sunlight by air molecules (Rayleigh scattering); blue light has a shorter wavelength and scatters more than other colours.

15. What type of lens is used to correct myopia (short-sightedness)?

    A concave (diverging) lens is used to correct myopia.

16. What is the audible range of sound frequency for humans?

    20 Hz to 20,000 Hz (20 kHz). Below 20 Hz is infrasound; above 20 kHz is ultrasound.

17. Does sound travel faster in solids, liquids, or gases?

    Sound travels fastest in solids, slower in liquids, and slowest in gases, because particles are more closely packed in solids.

18. State Ohm's Law and its formula.

    At constant temperature, current through a conductor is directly proportional to the voltage across it: V = IR (Voltage = Current x Resistance).
