What are the eight parts of speech in English?
Noun, Pronoun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb, Preposition, Conjunction, and Interjection.
What is the difference between an adjective and an adverb?
An adjective modifies a noun or pronoun (a quick runner); an adverb modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb (he runs quickly).
What is a pronoun and name its main types?
A pronoun replaces a noun. Types: Personal (he, they), Possessive (mine), Relative (who, which), Demonstrative (this, those), Reflexive (himself), Indefinite (someone).
What is a conjunction? Name the three types.
A conjunction joins words, phrases, or clauses. Types: Coordinating (and, but, or), Subordinating (because, although), and Correlative (either...or, neither...nor).
What is the function of a preposition? Give examples.

When is the Present Perfect tense used?
For an action completed at an unspecified past time with present relevance, or an action started in the past and continuing now. Signal words: just, already, yet, ever, never, since, for.
What is the difference between Past Simple and Present Perfect?
Past Simple states a finished action at a definite past time (I saw him yesterday). Present Perfect links a past action to now with no specific time (I have seen him).
Which tense is used for a habitual or general truth, and what is its key signal?
The Present Simple tense. Signal words: always, usually, often, every day, generally. Example: The sun rises in the east.
State the basic rule of Subject-Verb Agreement.
A singular subject takes a singular verb, and a plural subject takes a plural verb. Example: She writes; They write.
In subject-verb agreement, what verb form follows two subjects joined by 'and'?
A plural verb, because they form a compound (plural) subject. Example: Tom and Jerry are friends. (Exception: if they refer to one unit, e.g. Bread and butter is my breakfast.)
With subjects joined by 'or'/'nor', which subject does the verb agree with?
The verb agrees with the subject nearer to it. Example: Neither the teacher nor the students were present; Neither the students nor the teacher was present.
Do 'each', 'every', 'everyone', 'someone', 'nobody' take a singular or plural verb?
Singular. Example: Everyone is here; Each of the boys was given a prize.
What verb form do collective nouns (team, jury, family) usually take?
Singular when acting as one unit (The team is winning); plural when members act individually (The team are arguing among themselves).
What are the three articles in English and how are they classified?
A, An (indefinite articles) and The (definite article). Indefinite refer to any/unspecified one; definite refers to a specific one.
When do you use 'a' versus 'an'?
Use 'a' before a consonant sound (a book, a university - 'yoo' sound); use 'an' before a vowel sound (an apple, an hour - silent h).
Give the rule for using the definite article 'the'.
Use 'the' for specific/already-mentioned things, unique objects (the sun), superlatives (the best), rivers/seas/oceans, and ordinals (the first).
Which prepositions are used for time: 'at', 'on', 'in'?
'At' for precise times (at 5 pm); 'on' for days and dates (on Monday, on June 5); 'in' for months, years, and longer periods (in May, in 2026).
Which prepositions are used for place: 'at', 'on', 'in'?
'At' for a specific point (at the door); 'on' for a surface (on the table); 'in' for an enclosed space or area (in the room, in Lahore).
