The main claim the author is trying to get you to accept; the point the rest of the argument supports. It is what the evidence is offered to prove.
In an argument, what is a premise?
A statement offered as evidence or support for the conclusion. Premises are the reasons given to make the conclusion believable.

Therefore, thus, hence, so, consequently, accordingly, it follows that, clearly, this shows/proves/suggests that.

Because, since, for, as, given that, due to, owing to, in light of, for the reason that.
What is the 'because' / 'therefore' test for finding the conclusion?
Insert 'because' before each candidate premise and 'therefore' before the candidate conclusion. If the sentences read logically (premise BECAUSE..., therefore CONCLUSION), you have identified them correctly.
What is a subsidiary (intermediate) conclusion?
A statement that is supported by some premises but in turn supports the main conclusion. It functions as both a conclusion and a premise within the same argument.
What is an assumption in an argument?
