    A prime number is a natural number greater than 1 with exactly two factors: 1 and itself. 2 is the only even prime number.

  2. Classify numbers by parity: what defines an even number versus an odd number, and what type is zero?

    Even = divisible by 2 (form 2n); odd = not divisible by 2 (form 2n+1). Zero is an even number.

  3. State the BODMAS/order-of-operations rule.

    Solve in order: Brackets, Orders (powers/roots), Division and Multiplication (left to right), then Addition and Subtraction (left to right).

  4. What is the fundamental relationship between the HCF and LCM of two numbers a and b?

    HCF(a,b) x LCM(a,b) = a x b (the product of the two numbers).

  5. How do you find the HCF and LCM of fractions?

    HCF of fractions = HCF of numerators / LCM of denominators. LCM of fractions = LCM of numerators / HCF of denominators.

  6. In approximation problems, how is a value like 4.97 typically treated, and 5.02?

    Round to the nearest convenient whole number: 4.97 is taken as 5 and 5.02 is taken as 5; replace messy numbers with nearby round values before computing.

  7. What are the laws of exponents for a^m x a^n and (a^m)^n?

    a^m x a^n = a^(m+n); (a^m)^n = a^(mn). Also a^m / a^n = a^(m-n) and a^0 = 1.

  8. What do a^(-n) and a^(1/n) equal?

    a^(-n) = 1 / a^n; a^(1/n) = the n-th root of a (e.g., a^(1/2) = square root of a).

  9. How do you convert a fraction or decimal to a percentage and vice versa?

    To percentage: multiply by 100. From percentage: divide by 100. E.g., 0.25 = 25%; 40% = 0.4 = 2/5.

  10. If a value increases by x% then decreases by x%, what is the net change?

    A net decrease of (x^2/100)%. The original value is never fully restored.

  11. What is the percentage-change formula?

    Percentage change = (Change / Original value) x 100, where Change = New value - Original value.

  12. Define ratio and the means/extremes property of a proportion a:b = c:d.

    A ratio compares two quantities by division (a:b = a/b). In a proportion a:b = c:d, the product of means equals product of extremes: b x c = a x d (i.e., ad = bc).

  13. In a partnership, how is profit shared when partners invest different amounts for different times?

    Profit is divided in the ratio of each partner's (capital x time). E.g., A invests Rs P1 for t1 months, B invests P2 for t2 months: share ratio = P1xt1 : P2xt2.

  14. What is the formula for the average (arithmetic mean) of n quantities?

    Average = (Sum of all observations) / (Number of observations).

  15. What is the average of the first n natural numbers?

    (n + 1) / 2.

  16. Define profit percent and loss percent, and on what value are they calculated?

    Profit% = (Profit / Cost Price) x 100; Loss% = (Loss / Cost Price) x 100. Both are always calculated on the Cost Price.

  17. What is the relationship between Selling Price, Cost Price and profit/loss percentage?

    SP = CP x (100 + Profit%)/100 for profit, or SP = CP x (100 - Loss%)/100 for loss.

  18. How is discount percent calculated, and on which value?

    Discount% = (Discount / Marked Price) x 100. Discount is always calculated on the Marked Price (list price), and SP = MP - Discount.

  19. What is the formula for Simple Interest?

    SI = (P x R x T) / 100, where P = principal, R = rate per annum, T = time in years.

  20. What is the Compound Interest amount formula for annual compounding?

    Amount A = P(1 + R/100)^T; Compound Interest = A - P.

  21. For 2 years, by how much does Compound Interest exceed Simple Interest on the same P and R?

    Difference = P(R/100)^2, i.e., the interest on the first year's interest.
