In the principles of art and architecture, what is meant by 'proportion' and which classical ratio is most associated with it?
Proportion is the harmonious relationship of parts to one another and to the whole. The classical ratio associated with it is the Golden Ratio (Golden Section), $\phi = \frac{1+\sqrt{5}}{2} \approx 1.618$.
List the basic ordering principles (elements) of architectural composition.
Axis, symmetry, hierarchy, rhythm/repetition, datum, and transformation. Supporting visual principles include balance, proportion, scale, contrast, harmony, unity and emphasis.
Differentiate between 'scale' and 'proportion' in architectural design.
Proportion is the relationship of parts within a composition (internal, ratio-based). Scale is the size of an object relative to a known reference, especially the human body (human scale) or its surroundings.
What are the three classical conditions of good architecture as defined by Vitruvius?
Firmitas (firmness/structural strength), Utilitas (commodity/function/utility) and Venustas (delight/beauty). Stated in his treatise 'De Architectura'.

Entasis is the slight convex curve (swelling) along the shaft of a column. It was used as an optical correction to counteract the illusion of concavity that perfectly straight columns would produce.

What major structural innovations did the Romans contribute that the Greeks lacked?

A Roman temple with a domed circular cella fronted by a Corinthian portico. Its coffered concrete dome spans about 43 m and is topped by a central oculus; the interior height equals the diameter, defining a perfect sphere.
