    The acceleration of a body is directly proportional to the net force acting on it and inversely proportional to its mass: F = ma (force = mass x acceleration).

  2. Why does a person feel a backward jerk when a bus suddenly starts moving forward?

    Because of inertia of rest: the lower body moves with the bus while the upper body tends to stay at rest, so it is left behind, producing a backward jerk.

  3. What is the difference between conduction, convection and radiation as modes of heat transfer?

    Conduction transfers heat through direct contact in solids; convection transfers heat through movement of fluids (liquids/gases); radiation transfers heat as electromagnetic waves needing no medium (e.g., the Sun's heat).

  4. Why does the sky appear blue during the day?

    Because of Rayleigh scattering: shorter (blue) wavelengths of sunlight are scattered much more by air molecules than longer (red) wavelengths, so scattered blue light dominates the sky.

  5. What is the working principle of a pressure cooker?

    Increasing pressure raises the boiling point of water above 100 C, so food cooks faster at higher temperature.
