Atomic number Z = number of protons. Mass number A = number of protons + neutrons. Number of neutrons = A - Z.
State the order of filling of atomic subshells according to the (n+l) Aufbau rule.
1s, 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p, 4s, 3d, 4p, 5s, 4d, 5p, 6s, 4f, 5d, 6p, 7s — lower (n+l) fills first, and for equal (n+l) the lower n fills first.
State the Pauli exclusion principle.
No two electrons in an atom can have the same set of all four quantum numbers; an orbital holds at most two electrons with opposite spins.
State Hund's rule of maximum multiplicity.
Electrons fill degenerate orbitals singly with parallel spins before any orbital is doubly occupied, minimizing electron-electron repulsion.

What is the value of Avogadro's number, and what does it count?

The amount of substance containing exactly 6.022 x 10^23 elementary entities (Avogadro's number). The mass of one mole in grams equals the substance's molar mass.
What formula relates number of moles to mass and molar mass?
moles (n) = mass (g) / molar mass (g/mol).
What formula relates number of moles to the number of particles?
moles (n) = number of particles / Avogadro's number (6.022 x 10^23). So number of particles = n x 6.022 x 10^23.
