  10. What are the three modes of heat transfer?

    The amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kg of a substance by 1 degree Celsius (or 1 K). SI unit: J/(kg.K).

  12. What is the speed of light and the approximate speed of sound in air?

    Light travels at about 3 x 10^8 m/s in vacuum; sound travels at about 340 m/s in air at room temperature.

  13. State the laws of reflection of light.

    1) The angle of incidence equals the angle of reflection. 2) The incident ray, reflected ray and normal at the point of incidence all lie in the same plane.

  14. What is refraction of light?

    The bending of light as it passes from one transparent medium to another due to a change in its speed.

  15. What are the conditions required for an echo to be heard?

    The reflecting surface must be at least about 17 m away so the reflected sound returns after at least 0.1 second, the minimum time interval the ear can distinguish.

  16. State Ohm's law and its formula.

    At constant temperature, the current through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across it: V = IR (V = voltage, I = current, R = resistance).

    Current: ampere (A); charge: coulomb (C); resistance: ohm (Omega).
